With this book I have written a comprehensive work on all the things that particularly interested me at the beginning. I know that many of my former students felt the same way. When asked for further reading beyond the textbooks, I usually offered books on meteorology. If this book had been available, I think I could have sold it to almost every student. It also contains so many tips and tricks that even old hands can learn something new.

The thing that excites me most about flying is the playful approach to nature. Everyone has learned in their flying training where, when and why warm air rises. Finding these thermals, centering them and using them to climb up to the base is impressive. Then to aim for the next break-off edge on your flight, to arrive and it actually goes up again is amazing. This correspondence between theory and practice is always a special experience.
