Rugged GPS Navigation for Outdoor Activities, Hike & Fly, and Adventure
The Garmin Montana 710 series combines precise GPS navigation, a large 5-inch color touchscreen, worldwide TopoActive maps, and a rugged design for demanding outdoor use. The series includes the Garmin Montana 710, the Montana 710iwith inReach satellite communication, and the Montana 760i with inReach and a built-in 8-megapixel camera.
Whether it’s hike-and-fly, vol-bivouac, trekking, mountaineering, expeditions, or travel: The Montana 710 series is designed for users who want comprehensive navigation right on a large display. The display can be operated even while wearing gloves and can be used in portrait or landscape orientation.
The high-resolution 5-inch color touchscreen with 480 × 800 pixels offers plenty of space for maps, routes, and navigation information. Especially on complex trips, the large map display is a significant advantage over particularly compact handheld GPS devices.
Using the built-in map manager, TopoActive maps for various regions worldwide can be downloaded and updated directly via Wi-Fi. High-resolution satellite imagery can also be downloaded via Wi-Fi. Additionally, the Montana series is compatible with Outdoor Maps+ and the Garmin Explore app.
The water-resistant device features a barometric altimeter and a tilt-compensated 3-axis electronic compass, which complement GPS and Galileo satellite navigation.
The Garmin Montana 710 is the right choice when the focus is on comprehensive outdoor navigation and standalone satellite communication isn’t required.
It offers the series’ essential navigation features, worldwide TopoActive maps, satellite imagery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ANT+, as well as USB-C. The high-capacity battery provides up to 24 hours of use in GPS mode.
Another advantage of the Montana 710: In addition to the lithium-ion battery, the device can also be powered by three AA batteries using an optional battery holder.
The Garmin Montana 710i expands its navigation capabilities with built-in Garmin inReach satellite communication for a safe expedition mode. The satellite technology enables continuous global connectivity.
With an active inReach subscription, you can communicate via the global Iridium satellite network even outside of cellular coverage. This includes two-way text messaging, location sharing, tracking, check-in messages, and optional inReach weather information.
In an emergency, an interactive SOS distress call can be sent to Garmin Response. Two-way communication allows you to exchange additional information with the coordination center during the emergency.
Especially for hike-and-fly, vol-bivouac, expeditions, and remote mountain regions, the combination of detailed navigation and satellite communication is essential for a safe expedition.
The Garmin Montana 760i essentially offers the same navigation and inReach features as the Montana 710i, supplemented by a built-in 8-megapixel camera.
Photos can be tagged with location data. This allows you to directly document and geotag interesting places, waypoints, or experiences while on the go.
This makes the Montana 760i the most feature-rich model of the three variants.

Montana 710: For pilots and outdoor enthusiasts who are primarily looking for a large, rugged GPS navigation device.
Montana 710i: For challenging trips where satellite communication, tracking, and SOS capabilities outside of cellular network coverage are also desired.
Montana 760i: For users who also want to use a built-in camera to document their trips.
The Montana series really shines during multi-day Hike & Fly and Vol-Bivouac adventures. The large display makes it easier to navigate on the ground, while the comprehensive maps and long battery life are designed for demanding trips.
For remote expeditions, the Montana 710i and 760i with inReach offer an additional advantage: communication and SOS capabilities remain available even where there is no cellular network.
Weighing about 410 g, however, the Montana series is significantly heavier than compact satellite messengers like the inReach Mini. It is therefore better suited for users who prioritize a large map display and comprehensive navigation over minimal weight.
