Description

Super-lightweight, steerable cross-cap for tandem.

The super-lightweight TargetCross ST combines the low packing effort of round and cross caps with the steerability of Rogallo rescue devices. The TargetCross concept does not require pre-braking, which keeps the system very simple and reliable.

New innovations:

  1. It has a defined forward movement in a diagonal direction, which significantly reduces the sink rate. This is achieved on the one hand by a higher aspect ratio compared to conventional cross-shaped canopies, whose propulsion is mainly in one direction, and on the other hand by the slanted airflow over the curved sides of the TargetCross canopy, which gives it a lift-optimized profile.
  2. The horizontal movement that all modern round and cross canopies exhibit can be steered in a specific direction with the TargetCross ST if necessary. This allows obstacles such as power lines to be avoided and an emergency landing site with a glide ratio of approx. 1:1.5 to be approached in a targeted manner. The TargetCross ST has no disadvantages compared to conventional cross canopies.
  3. The TargetCross has different line lengths, which means that when packing the canopy, the base panels do not lie exactly on top of each other as usual. This fanning effect allows air to enter more easily during opening, resulting in an increased opening speed compared to conventional cross-cap canopies. Packing the TargetCross is no more complicated than packing a conventional cross-cap canopy.

Further safety aspects:

  • There are no particular hazards associated with controllability: Twisting of the lines, which is often unavoidable when using a controllable system, does not cause any particular hazards. The TargetCross ST can also be controlled when twisted. The red color marking on the front tip clearly indicates the direction of flight to the pilot.
  • There are no dangers from excessive pulling or non-use of the brake handles. There is no risk of stalling. It is not necessary to pull the brakes during landing, as the canopy is already trimmed for minimal sink. The forward speed also significantly reduces the risk of spinal compression during landing.
  • The long lines of the TargetCross and the symmetrical canopy shape reduce the risk of the rescue system coming into conflict with the paraglider.
  • Forward speed and low sink rates further reduce the risk of a scissoring position between the rescue system and the paraglider and the resulting increased sink rates.
  • A short stall phase of the TargetCross after opening prevents the development of a "downplane" position. After a short, independent stall phase, the TargetCross transitions into a gentle, very stable, and pendulum-free forward flight without any action required from the pilot.
  • The special design of the inner container, optimized with the help of Tom Grabner's G-Force Trainer, ensures that the TargetCross can be deployed safely and with minimal effort. Particular attention was paid to unfavorable pull directions of the rescue device. We therefore recommend using the original container approved for the rescue device and, if necessary, having the rescue handle of the harness adapted to the container by an authorized service center.
  • The inner container has a separate area for the suspension lines. Only after the suspension lines have been stretched is the parachute canopy released, allowing it to open quickly and in a controlled manner. The risk of entanglement of the reserve and paraglider
  • The super-light cross cap by Charly's product designer Tom Grabner is patent pending and certified in four sizes.
