The adventure began when the now 40-year-old pilot ventured from construction to paraglider development in 2003. Since 2009, Maurer and his team have competed in and dominated the "Red Bull X-Alps" adventure race every two years.
In 2012, he became a full-time paragliding athlete. The move to self-employment was the result of high demand for further training and personal training for pilots, as well as lectures outside the flying scene.
