The Ozone Photon - the new 2-line sport class wing!
The Photon delivers near competition class performance for experienced sport class pilots. All of Ozone's 2-line expertise has been incorporated into the design of this wing. This project represents a long development phase with extensive prototyping and hundreds of hours of flight and safety testing, and we are very pleased with the "true performance" in real XC conditions. The Ozone Photon fills the gap between conventional 3-line gliders and high-performance gliders such as the Zeno2 or the Enzo3.
The Ozone Photon was developed from the Zeno 2. The aspect ratio is slightly lower, and the number of cells is more moderate. We also chose a typical profile. By increasing the curvature, we improved some comfort and handling factors, and the winglets compensate for the effect of the stronger curvature on roll stability and spiral behavior. The end result is the most accessible 2-liner we have ever developed.
Thanks to its stable profile and wing cohesion, the Ozone Photon feels compact and solid across the entire speed range, both in terms of wingspan and wing depth. It is trimmed for safety and easy handling, and has great handling characteristics. The wing's performance is immediately apparent – we have never flown an EN-C wing with so much glide. This is a true 2-liner that allows the pilot direct control of the angle of attack throughout the speed range, which is a safety pulse for experienced pilots and allows for a higher average speed when gliding through turbulent air. The Ozone Photon is an ideal stepping stone for anyone new to this style of flying.
The glide performance is very close to that of the Zeno2, but the improved wing cohesion and lower aspect ratio make it less demanding and more enjoyable to fly. When it comes to speed, this is the fastest EN-C wing we have developed to date: faster than the D4, M7, and Zeolite, and with a top speed only slightly lower than the Zeno 2. It is essential that it is solid and comfortable at these speeds. And the winglets improve roll stability for greater efficiency in accelerated flight.
Extensive testing by our Ozone R&D team on the behavior of the Ozone Photon in collapses has shown that the wing easily meets the safety requirements of its class, and its behavior in side and front collapses is very similar to that of the Delta4. We don't just test our wings in calm air, and the Photon is no exception. We have spent many hundreds of hours challenging the wing in real-world conditions to confirm its solidity in real life and its actual recovery behavior from collapses, thus ensuring that this wing is suitable for sport class pilots.
The is EN-C certified and available in six sizes. It is suitable for experienced pilots who have already flown EN-C category wings, have a high level of skill in controlling the wing, and have recently refreshed their SIV experience.
